PTFA

“Some people want it to happen, some wish it to happen, others make it happen” – Michael Jordan

The newly rebranded ‘Friends of Berrow Primary Church Academy’ formally Berrow School PTA is run by volunteers and operates as a charitable organisation, we are registered with the charities commission as ‘Berrow School Association’.

Our main objective is to bring the school and children together with fun, social events whilst raising funds to put back into the school to enhance and support the children’s experiences throughout their years at Berrow Primary Church Academy.

Who are we?

Berrow PTFA exists to foster a feeling of community among the parents and children, through its social events, whilst at the same time raising funds for the benefit of the school.  All parents and members of the school community are encouraged to get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available.  All families are automatically members of the ‘Friends of Berrow Primary Church Academy’ when their child joins our school.

We have informal meetings throughout the year to plan the events and decide how the funds we raise should be used. The meetings are usually held on a week night evening at the school or somewhere local. We also hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) where we review the year and elect any new committee members.

What is a PTA or Friends of?

PTA stands for Parent, Teacher Association, other names can include PA (Parent Association), PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Staff Association) and PTFA (Parent, Teacher, Friends Association). Friends of includes Parents, Carers, Guardians, Teacher and Staff and any person over the age of 18 offering appropriate support who is accepted by the committee as a member.

Each organisation can choose their name to reflect accurately the members that are involved. A PTA works alongside but is not governed by the school they are raising funds for.
If a PTA raises £5000 or more in a year, they need to register as a charity with the charity commission. Some PTAs choose to register as a charity even though they raise less than £5000 a year because of the benefits that come with being a charity.

PTA’s primarily run to raise additional funds to be spent on specific projects such as play equipment, funding trips and items requested by the school and agreed by its members. However, each PTA has their own set of aims and specific goals.

About us

Our volunteer committee (elected October 2022) consists of, Natalie Smith (Chairperson), April Palmer (Vice Chair) and Steff Osgood (Treasurer) plus several other committee members Sarah Johnson, Maria Lillington, Kerri Stacey, Lucy Hamilton and Hayley Robins who are all parents/carers of children currently attending Berrow Primary Church Academy.  All committee members have voting rights on decisions within the PTA.

What are we raising money for?

Money raised at our events will be used for various enrichment projects and equipment throughout the school. Each year we review how funds raised will be spent. The focus of our fundraising this year will be on outdoor learning. It is not all about how much money we can raise, we operate to give every child the opportunity to enjoy social events within school.

What can you do to help?

As a parent or carer of a pupil attending the school you are automatically a general member of the PTA, Friends of Berrow Primary Church Academy. You can help us to put on events and raise money for projects that benefit the children and bring our community closer together.
