Term Five

Our value this term: Courage

This term our enquiry will be "How do animals survive and thrive?'

Throughout this enquiry, we will build upon the children's prior knowledge and understanding of living things. In year 4, we will develop and further our learning on living processes and how we affect the environment.

Enquiry questions:

What makes me human?
What do I need to survive?
How do nature’s species adapt to the environment?

Why do we need to protect different species?

How does our climate impact survival?

How have different communities adapted to where they live?

How can change impact nature?

How can I keep healthy?

English

In English this term, we will reading  the text 'The Barnabus project'. This narrative follows a creature that is half elephant and half mouse on his quest to escape from a secret laboratory that creates 'perfect pets'. We will continue to develop our reading skills by retrieving information, inferring the text to understand character feelings and emotions and exploring new vocabulary. The children will use these skills to visualise, predict and sequence events to showcase their understanding. In writing, the children will be writing their own sequel to the Barnabus project.

Maths

In Maths this term, we will be looking at fractions greater than one. Children will order and compare mixed numbers and develop their understanding on how fractions are part of a whole.

Art/DT

In Art we will be exploring drawing for a significant amount of time while sketching animal portraits.

PSHE

Our topic for Term five in PSHE is Relationships.

RE

This term in RE will be studying different faiths and in particular, looking at Hinduism.
